How Discounts work

• Reducing the Bill: Discounts decrease the total amount a customer owes.
• Types: qoda.ly supports two main discount types:
  • Fixed amount: A specific dollar value subtracted (e.g., €10 off).
  • Percentage: A percentage deducted from the price (e.g., 20% off).
• Limitations: Discounts cannot exceed the original value of the items they apply to. When necessary, the discount amount is truncated to avoid negative item prices.
• Targeted application: Discounts can be configured to apply to:
  • The entire Bill
  • Sales Categories: Items belonging to a defined category (e.g., “Beverages,” “Desserts”).

Managing Discounts in qoda.ly

• Permissions: applying arbitrary discounts requires special staff permissions to prevent misuse.
• Standard discounts: qoda.ly allows you to create preset discounts with specific rules and names in your account settings. These streamline discount application and can be used by staff without any special permissions.
• Discount codes (Optional): Standard discounts can have an associated “discount code” that customers can enter during online ordering to apply the discount themselves.

• Strategic application: use discounts thoughtfully for promotions or to maintain customer satisfaction.
• Clear naming: give Standard discounts descriptive names for easy identification.
