Tip
Tips are a way for customers to express their appreciation for excellent service and contribute to your staff’s compensation. qoda.ly offers multiple ways to collect and manage tips, ensuring flexibility and transparency.
Tip collection methods
- Smartphone orders: customers ordering autonomously on their smartphones can add a tip directly during the payment process.
- Hub payments: when a staff member processes a payment through the qoda.ly Hub, and the customer pays an amount exceeding the bill total, the difference is automatically designated as a tip.
- Item/Guest splitting: during payment splitting with the “by items” or “evenly by guests” options, customers have the opportunity to contribute additional tips beyond what is needed to cover the bill.
- Discounts: if a discount leaves a bill in an overpaid state, the system prompts the user to either allocate the excess amount as a tip or leave it as overpayment on the bill (usable for further orders against that bill).
Tracking and reporting
- Bill association: tips are tracked and associated with the specific bill where they were collected.
- Aggregated reporting: while linked to individual bills, tips are usually displayed as consolidated totals in reports. This provides an overview of tip income for your staff.
Best practices
- Customer experience: ensure tip collection methods are convenient and clear for customers across all ordering channels.
- Staff transparency: establish a clear tip distribution policy and communicate it to your staff.
- Reporting: use qoda.ly’s reporting tools to track tip trends and identify areas where service might excel or need improvement.
